16 arrested in Yagaba Kubori clash between NPP and NDC

Nine more persons have been arrested by the police over a clash between supporters of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Yagaba Kubori Constituency of the North East Region, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr James Oppong-Boanuh, has revealed.

The IGP disclosed this in an interview with Class News’ Blessed Sogah on Tuesday, 1 December 2020 after taking part in the special voting exercise.

Mr Oppong-Boanuh noted that a rapid response team was deployed to the community on the night of the incident.

He said: “Yes, we moved in that very night – in fact, within an hour after the situation.

“We had a rapid response team there from Walewale made up of police officers and soldiers.”

He further noted that the arrested persons have been arraigned.

“They are all before court. Those who were arrested yesterday were remanded, today, those who were arrested this morning are being sent to Walewale and they’ll be put before court, they’ll be remanded.

“So, there should be peace. We’re dealing with the situation.”

Meanwhile, the IGP has said that enough resources have been made available to the police administration to ensure a proper discharge of their duties during the general elections.

“Resources have been provided; we have vehicles for them to move, PPE and everything that they need, their allowances have been paid, I signed a cheque for them yesterday,” Mr Oppong-Boanuh stated.
