2 arrested for conveying tramadol with an ambulance

The Apapa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has announced the interception of an ambulance conveying 10 cartons of 225 milligrams of Tramadol in the Apapa area of Lagos State.

It said the Hyundai ambulance, with number plate, LND 605 XW, was intercepted with the drugs while the driver was trying to smuggle them out of the port amid sirens.

It was gathered that the ambulance belonged to the Medbury Medical Services, an emergency health service provider.

While showing the vehicle and the drugs on Wednesday, the Controller, NCS, Apapa Command, Muhammad Abba-Kura, said two suspects, Michael Ajibade and Olatunde Emmanuel, were arrested in connection with the seizure.

According to Abba-Kura, further investigations revealed that the drugs were stolen from a container waiting for examination inside the port.

He estimated the duty paid value of all the drugs to be N59.3m.

“It is regrettable to state that while the Nigeria Customs Service is working to free this country of illicit goods, some unpatriotic citizens are not relenting in their desperate urge to sabotage our efforts,” he said.
