2020 May day Celebrations put off

The Industrial and Commercial Workers Union, ICU says this year’s May Day Celebrations hangs in the balance because of the precarious situation the world finds itself now.

General Secretary of the ICU, Solomon Kotei said in spite of that, the May Day Celebrations, which is about two weeks away, will be observed by Ghanaian workers in a manner that will not compromise the fight against the Coronavirus.

Speaking to Journalists in Accra, Mr Kotei said the May Day parade will certainly be off this year but workers who distinguished themselves will be honoured at special events throughout the country.

Mr Kotei seized the opportunity to appeal to Ghanaians not to stigmatize persons confirmed to have tested positive for the Coronavirus because it will defeat the very purpose for which a strong fight has been launched against the virus.

The General Secretary of the ICU acknowledged the singular Contribution of Doctors and Nurses in the fight against the coronavirus but was quick to add that, all these will come to nought if the media, and for that matter Journalists are not on the front lines disseminating information to the public.

He lauded the media’s efforts in the fight and called for adequate rewards for front line Journalists.
