2022 World Happiness Ranking: Check out Africa’s Top 10

When 146 countries were ranked in the 2022 edition of the World Happiness Ranking, Finland came top and was followed by a number of European countries in making the top 10.

At the level of the African continent, the highest placed African country was Mauritius at 52nd place – dipping two places from the 2021 edition of the report.

Libya, despite its ongoing political and security challenges emerged second on the ranking at the 86th mark while Ivory Coast at 88th completed the top three alots.

Africa’s Top 10 was as follows:

1 – Mauritius (52nd)
2 – Libya (86th)
3 – Ivory Coast (88th)
4 – South Africa (91st)
5 – Gambia (93rd)
6 – Algeria (96th)
7 – Liberia (97th)
8- Congo Brazzaville (99th)
9 – Morocco (100th)
10 – Mozambique (101st)

Others included: Cameroon (102nd), Senegal (103rd), Niger (104th), Gabon (106th), Guinea (109th), Ghana (111th) with Nigeria ranking behind Ghana in 118th place.

Finland are keeping their leader spot for the fifth year in a row, with its neighbours Denmark, followed by Iceland coming second and third respectively in the current report.

About the ranking:

The ranking is based on six major factors that tend to lead to greater happiness and metrics.

They include: GDP per capita, social support, healthy life expectancy, freedom to make life choices, generosity and perceptions of corruption.

The publication is led by the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network and is compiled by a group of independent experts acting in their personal capacities was also based on life evaluations from the Gallup World Poll.

The report has been published since 2012, with this year marking the 10th anniversary of the World Happiness Report.
