According to her, her services as a chop bar attendant had been truncated by her employer because the employer’s children had vacated and were performing the responsibilities she had been assigned to.
She was left with nothing to do and no savings to eat from because the chop bar she worked with used to pay her GHC 5 on a daily basis.
Akua Akyaa who spoke to Crime Check Foundation said “I needed to get money to buy food for myself and my three children. So I took her five cedis. When I returned home on the faithful day, I met her raining insults at me and that got me infuriated so we fought. She was stronger than me and so she overpowered me but I cut her with a blade she was using to cut her nails”.
Akyaa continued that “the lady’s Uncles were home at the time so they took me to the Police station and after few days, I was arranged in court where I was fined of an amount of two thousand two hundred cedis. But I could not get the money so the judge sentenced me to two months in jail”.
Akyaa is worried not only because she has been jailed but also, she is not aware of how her three children will be taken care of because she does not have any family to do that on her behalf.
