3 adults, infant die after truck crashes into sedan

Three adults and an infant died when a truck crashed into a sedan on the N3, near Roadside in the Free State.

The crash happened on Wednesday at around 06:00.

The four died at the scene, while three other adults and another child were hospitalised.

Free State police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring, said allegations were that a silver grey Hyundai with a GP registration was about a few kilometres from Roadside when the driver made U-turn near the off ramp without noticing oncoming traffic.

“Unfortunately the truck with NW registration which was transporting wheat collided with the sedan. As a result, three adults and [a] child died instantly on the scene. Another three adults and a child have been admitted at a local hospital in Harrismith. The driver of the truck is free from injury and the truck is slightly damaged. A case of culpable homicide is being investigated,” Mophiring said.

Mophiring said the children were both under one-year-old.
