The Upper West region, has recorded three additional deaths from meningitis bringing the total number of deaths in the region to 43.
Reports say the three were among some 15 new cases of the endemic recorded in the region.
The case count has shot up from 258 to 273 as at Monday, April 27, 2020.
This came to light in a conversation between the outgoing Upper West Regional Director of Health Services, Dr. Osei Kuffuor Afreh, and the Deputy Minister of Health, Bernard Okoe Boye.
The the Deputy Minister and his entourage are on a two-day working visit to the region, to get a first hand information about the new strain of meningitis.
“We currently have 273 suspected cases of meningitis in the region. 62 results received so far are confirmed to be meningitis,” he said.
