Keep Katanga as all-male hall – Govt to KNUST Council

The government has urged the authorities of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to maintain University (Katanga) Hall as an all-male hall of residence.

Education Minister Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh said while the running of the university is the sole preserve of the university’s council, it is important they consider other views regarding the conversion of University Hall into a mixed hall.

This, he said, will “preserve a peaceful and conducive environment for academic work and cordial relationship in the University.”

“I therefore wish to reiterate the position of the government on this matter that Katanga Hall remain a male hall of residence,” Dr Prempeh said in a statement.

The decision to admit female students in the hall and Unity hall (Conti) has sparked renewed protest from students and alumni.
