In Gomoa Antseadze, which is in the Central Region, there was an accident on the road from Cape Coast to Accra that killed seven people.
The sprinter was going from Mankessim to Accra when it went off the road and into the bush, killing all seven people on board right away.
Eight more people, including an infant, were hurt in different ways and were rushed to St. Luke’s Catholic Hospital in Apam for care.
ACFO Ankomah Nuamah of the Apam District Fire Service said that the accident happened because the drivers of the GW 7920-22 Sprinter Benz bus and another Sprinter Benz bus were racing on the road.
He said that the driver lost control of the car during the race when a bar under the car broke. The car did a few flips before it hit a tree on the side of the road.
The other car hadn’t pulled over to help.
A bystander who saw the accident told the Apam Fire station about it at 00:00. A rescue team was sent to the scene, and people who were still alive were pulled from the wreckage.
Since then, the Ghana Police Service has taken the dead bodies to a morgue. There are three women and four men among them.
