7 players Chelsea could sell in the summer to avoid breaching Premier League rules

Chelsea could reportedly be forced to part ways with at least seven first-team players in the summer to avoid being in breach of Premier League’s Financial Fair Play rules.

The Blues are currently having a bloated wage bill and squad following a massive spending spree in the last two windows after the arrival of Todd Boehly.

According to The Mirror, the west London club recently announced losses of more than £120million over the last financial year, ringing alarm bells at Stamford Bridge.

So much so that the financial strife could leave the club with no choice but to offload several players in a bid to balance their books.

It is understood that in the event Chelsea are found in breach of the FFP rules, they could be slapped with sanctions ranging from fines to a transfer embargo.

As a result, the Blues could now be forced to work on modalities of offloading several players in the summer in a bid to be in good books.

Which Chelsea players could be sold?

According to The Times, Chelsea would need to raise ‘substantial amounts’ of money to avoid breaching the FFP guidelines.

Having spent so much in the last two transfer windows, the club would need to cash in on players before the end of June to ensure that the fees raised from the transfers are counted in the current season’s accounts.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who has fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge, tops a list of the players who could be offloaded this summer.

Graham Potter has all but overlooked the former Arsenal skipper, pointing at a possible departure in the coming months.

Mason Mount is also said to be facing an uncertain future with the Blues, with his contract set to expire at the end of next summer.

Discussions over a new deal are said to have stalled, with Chelsea left with no option but to cash in on the midfielder rather than lose him for free in the event he runs down his contract.

Conor Gallagher, Christian Pulisic, and Hakim Ziyech are also expected to seek new challenges elsewhere.

Trevoh Chalobah and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are the other two players whose future at Stamford Bridge looks bleak.

The arrival of Wesley Fofana relegated Chalobah to the bench, while Loftus-Cheek could be used to bring in cash, given he has featured heavily under Graham Potter.
