Uber driver injured in carjacking at Ejisu

A 22-year-old Uber driver, Prince Ampofo, has sustained serious body injuries in a machete attack during a carjacking at the Ejisu town of Besease in the Ashanti Region.

The victim was attacked by two men, who hired his services from Atinga Junction at Ahodwo to Besease under the pretext of going to inspect a plot of land.

The incident happened around 8:30 pm in the bush at Besease on November 2, 2019, a police source said. It added that Prince was still on admission at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital with multiple injuries to both hands, kneel, forehead and back.

The victim said a friend of his car owner only known as Fofie arranged the trip for him after introducing the attackers as his guests.

According to him, he picked one of the carjackers at Atinga Junction who took him to Dichemso to pick the second person before they proceeded to Ejisu-Besease where the former claimed he was going to inspect a plot of land.

Prince narrated that when he pulled over near the bush at Besease with his Toyota Yaris saloon car registered AS 5191–19, his attackers got out and asked him to come with them as they needed him to bear witness.

He stated that he was attacked by the duo with a machete and axe they had concealed inside their trousers.

They then drove off the car, leaving him to his fate in the bush. He said the men were not known to him.

The police source told DAILY GUIDE that the victim sustained multiple cuts and that he was “lucky to be alive”. It added that Prince was in hospital with a serious but stable condition with “life-changing injuries”.

The source said Fofie was granted a police enquiry bail after his arrest last Wednesday while investigations continue.
