Residents of Abrafo Kokoben are angered by an earlier account of the police over the death of a 37-year-old in police custody; accused them of lynching the deceased suspect.

The residents rather give a bone-chilling account of how the police were seen chasing prince Kuffour and yelling thief which they joined to catch the suspect.

“We were here when the police grabbed him and started beating him up with their gun and stamping in his abdomen with their boots,” an angry man yelled at the media from the crowd.

“We saw him bleeding profusely while the police dragged him to the station,” another gentleman pointed out.

“Obroni used his two hands to give him a double slap. The police have stamped and destroyed all his abdomen,” some two women also screamed from the incensed crowd.

“If anyone says the youth of Kokoben were the ones who beat the guy to death they are liars. It is untrue. We know prince. Why will we beat him up,” the crowd protesting the reports responded in unison.

Another man noted to the approval of the crowd, “Their station is right beside a river. May the gods kill all of them if they tell these lies.”

A sister of the deceased Ama Owusuwaa who last saw his brother could not hold back her tears when she recounted his brother’s last words to her.

“His head was swollen, his chest was badly beaten. He told me with difficulty he was thirsty. I went to buy him some food and water but when I got there, they went to the cells to discover he was dead,” she lamented.

A police statement released on Saturday, August 5th however made no mention of brutality.
