Abortion doctor arrested

A 45-year-old man who carried himself as a medical doctor and allegedly engaged in illegal abortion has been arrested by the Police at Esreso in the Bosomtwi District of the Ashanti region.

Samuel Boateng popularly known as ‘Abortion Doctor’, is said to have no formal medical training, certificate or licence to practice in the country.

Police say his operations have resulted in health complications for one of his unsuspecting victims who is currently battling her life at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi.

He allegedly operated from a maternity home, Sophia General Maternity Clinic, which he inherited from his late stepmother.

According to the police they found at the clinic, a manhole in which Boateng has been disposing of unsanitary instruments used for the abortion as well as foetuses.

Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Corporal Prince Dogbatse, told 3news the suspect will soon be arraigned.

He urged the public to refrain from acquiring the services of quack doctors for their own safety.

“The general public is advised to report activities of suspected quack doctors within their neighbourhood to the police to safe-guard the citizens from being abused unnecessarily.”

Cpl. Dogbatse warned quack doctors in the country to turn a new leaf as the police will do all it can to not only expose them, but also arrest them to face the law.
