Missing penalty against Uruguay has been a blessing in disguise – Asamoah Gyan

Former Black Stars skipper Asamoah Gyan says although missing the penalty kick against Uruguay was worrying, it has been a blessing in disguise for him.

He indicates that several doors have opened in his life as a result of him missing the penalty that could have seen Ghana being the first in Africa to reach the semi finals of the World Cup.

He says the blessings from missing the penalty include him signing for Sunderland in England.

” One day Steve Bruce called and told me do you know why I signed you? I signed you because you’re a man. You have a strong mentality. For you to miss a penalty kick in the game and go back to take another and score takes only the lion hearted,” he said.

He further disclosed that even people who have little knowledge about football still remember him because of the kick he missed and it helps him get things done easily.

Asamoah Gyan who was speaking to Dentaa said the thought of missing the penalty kick comes to him only when he’s in his closet.

Asamoah Gyan said he always wishes he could turn the hands of time to retake the kick but that cannot happen.
