COCOA FARMERS AND COCOA PURCHASING CLERKS CRY

October 5, 2022, the government announced the 2022 cocoa producer price of Gh800 representing 21%.

Since the announcement of this new price, the government has not released funds to the various cocoa buying companies for onwards disbursement to their Purchasing Clerks (PCs) to buy the cocoa from the cocoa farmers.

Owing to this development, some cocoa farmers in the Twifo Atti-morkwa district of central region have expressed heartfelt bitterness about the delay by the government to release funds.

According to the farmers, they have borrowed agro chemicals and other stuff from their business partners with a promise that, they would repay when cocoa crop season is opened.

Their creditors are chasing them for their monies but the government has not released funds even though it has opened the cocoa crop season.

The cocoa farmers lamented that, the government has woefully disappointed them.

Some of the cocoa Purchasing Clerks (P.Cs) who also bemoaned that the farmers who have brought their cocoa to them are forcefully demanding their monies meanwhile the money is not on the table.

Because of that some of the PCs have vacated their homes just to avoid persistent pressure by the cocoa farmers.

Some of the PCs who used their personal money to pay the farmers with the hope that, the government would soon release funds are also crying that their monies have been locked up.

This has brought financial pressure on them and their families.

God bless Ghana,, God bless us all.
