Let’s restore dignity of teachers – Okyenhene

His Royal Majesty Okyenhene Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin has said the dignity of teachers must be restored and protected because of the crucial role they play in national development.

According to him “If Ghana will move forward we have to come back and restore the dignity of teaching in our country because without them we are nobody”.

The call by the Overload of the Akyem Abuakwa State comes at a time many teachers particularly at the Basic Education level in the country have expressed their frustrations over poor teaching and learning environment, lack of teaching and learning materials and government failure to release capitation grants to run schools and print examination questions compelling them to write the end of term exams questions on chalkboards.

Okyenhene believes “it is only a bad leader who doesn’t sustain and improve gains of his/her predecessor rather destroys them” adding that “those of us in leadership role must never remain where were are. Bring change never be defender of the status quo”.

He said this during the induction Service held for the Principal of Kyebi Presbyterian College of Education Rev.Charles Fosu Ayarkwa at Ebenezer Congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana in Kyebi.

Okyenhene Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin expressed confidence in the newly inducted Principal in bringing positive change into the training of teachers in the college for a better Ghana.

The Chairman of Akyem Abuakwa Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church, Rev. Dr. Seth Kissi delivering the sermon urged teachers to find innovative way of instilling discipline in children while abiding by the ban on canning instead of being indifferent about their moral integrity .

Rev.Charles Fosu Ayarkwa assured that he is committed to ensuring that the Kibi College of Education becomes a world class teacher training institution with excellence to churn out disciplined and dedicated teachers.

He said having been in acting position for two years, many interventions have been rolled out including infrastructural improvement and Human Resource development where many of the Lecturers are being supported to pursue PhD therefore hopeful in the next 4 years 80% of the lecturers will be PhD holders to help in the pursuit of academic excellence in the college.
