Following their widely circulated statement regarding the recent shortage of premix fuel, Honorable Emmanuel Kwaku Boam, the NDC Parliamentary Candidate, engaged with the Boat Owners Association in YEJI(PRU EAST DISTRICT), BONO EAST REGION, his constituency.
The Association explained that over three(3) months now, they haven’t received even a “Tanker of fuel” but they have being seeing this Premix Fuel been transported to some nearby areas along the Volta Lake. Initially, they received the fuel but wasn’t enough so they formed a group that enabled them share among themselves in jerycans and buy raw from filling stations mixed with oil to support what they get from Gov’t.
In addition they explained that, they buy one(1) jerycan at One hundred and eighty five cedis(₵185.00).What annoys them that, Government claims the shortage of the fuel is a national issue yet some people get the fuel and sell to them at Three hundred and fifty cedis(₵350.00). The question is where do they get it from to sell at “Kalabuley” price ?? They briefed the PC all the challenges facing them.
The Association’s secretary Mr. John Kpeli further explained that, the source of the recent challenges they are facing is simple, the authorities of the Premix Board see the Boat operators NDC folks hence they won’t supply them.
The association had warned the Government to provide a continuous supply of premix fuel to their community. They initially sent a warning to the government, indicating a potential “industrial strike,” and asked for a response within 14 days.
On the part of the NDC Parliamentary Candidate Hon. Emmanuel Kwaku Boam, Government saw the needful to subsidize the Premix Fuel and supply them directly but this Government intentionally decided not to supply them directly but give to their party faithfuls so they can increase the price to the consumers.
