I’ll abolish Teacher Licensure Exams – Mahama

Former President Mahama says he will abolish the licensure examination for teachers if he is elected as President in the 2020 polls.

Addressing Ghanaians through Facebook, Mr Mahama also said he will abolish the 60% increment on Communication Services tax by the Akufo-Addo government if given the opportunity again.

“Ghana deserves better. I will abolish the 60% increase in communications services tax and ensure massive job creation within the ICT and services sector. We will scrap the dreaded double track system and return to our record of massive infrastructure development across the sector.

” I will cancel licensure exams for teachers. The Eastern corridor will be given a major priority,” Mr. Mahama said among other promises.

The NDC flagbearer also said “I will reduce the size of ministers, reduce the size of ministries and also reduce the expenditure that Ghanaians spend on the office of the President. Those are the immediate things that I will do,” he said.

On corruption, Mahama said: “I pledge to the people of Ghana that we will listen to them and whatever concerns that they have, if God gives me a second term in office, we will see a more transparent government. We will deal more with the issue of corruption in terms of strengthening the institutions that deal with corruption.”

Earlier, the former President dismissed reports he was set to announce former education minister Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman as his running mate for the 2020 polls.

“The selection of a running mate is done by the Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in consultation with the Council of Elders and the National Executive Committee of the Party.

“There has been no meeting of either of the two bodies called for this purpose. How would any person believe that I am going to announce a running mate at 5PM today?”.
