The end of June will see the full opening of Kumasi International Airport. According to the authorities the expansion  of the airport will allow for increased international flights and an improved passenger experience. The airport’s modern facilities and infrastructure upgrades are expected to boost tourism and economic development in the region.

With an estimated capacity to accommodate over 800,000 passengers annually from the northern and middle belt regions, the facility represents a significant leap forward in regional connectivity.

The Kumasi International Airport is on track to commence full operations by the end of June this year, following an official handover to the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL).

The airport’s commissioning, scheduled for May ending, will facilitate testing essential for both domestic and international flights.

With an estimated capacity to accommodate over 800,000 passengers annually from the northern and middle belt regions, the facility represents a significant leap forward in regional connectivity.

Plans are underway to expand the runway and dismantle outdated infrastructure upon the terminal’s activation.

Transport Minister Kwaku Ofori Asiamah on Tuesday (23 April) toured the site alongside Ghana Airport Company Limited’s management and Board Members, expressing satisfaction with progress while highlighting long-term maintenance concerns.

“My concern is not only about the edifice, [it is about] how we are going to put it to use and the maintenance level and how this thing will be functional so that our people will benefit from it. For me, that is where my concern is…We are planning to commission this facility before the end of May. We think that all things being equal we will be able to commission the facility.”
