Nursing trainee, seven other Ghanaian traders die in Burkina Faso car crash

A male nursing trainee, identified only as David, and seven other Ghanaian tomato traders have died in Burkina Faso’s town of Nobere after a truck on which they were travelling got involved in a fatal accident morning of Wednesday, our Upper East Regional Correspondent Senyalah Castro reports.

The accident claimed the life of the trainee nurse and the other victims after one of the front tyre of their vehicle burst as they negotiated a curve in the town, sources said.

The truck, which was fully loaded with crates of tomatoes, was making a return journey from Burkina Faso, where Ghanaian traders mostly go to buy the commodity when the accident happened.

The vehicle somersaulted several times in the process leading to the death of six of the occupants on the spot.

Two of the injured later died on the way as they were being transported to the hospital, bringing the total death toll to 8 people – six women and two men.

Others occupants of the vehicle, numbering about 6, sustained various degrees of injuries and have since been admitted at the Paga district health centre and the War Memorial Hospital in Navrongo for medical attention.

Interment for the deceased nurse trainer, it is gathered, has been done by the family and the rest of the dead bodies sent to the hospital’s morgue for preservation.
