Government’s Lame Duck Approach To Galamsey Condemned by Mining Engineer

A Ghanaian-US based Mining Engineer, Dr. Solomon Owusu, has strongly criticized the Akufo Addo-led administration’s handling of illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, in the country.

In a scathing assessment, Dr. Owusu described the government’s approach as a “lame duck” effort, accusing high government officials of engaging in illegal mining activities hence the government’s snail approach in curbing the menace.

Speaking amidst the escalating galamsey menace, Dr. Owusu expressed dismay at the administration’s failure to effectively combat the prevailing menace, despite being in office for seven years.

“Seven years into the Akufo Addo/Bawumia administration, the struggle to combat galamsey persists,” he lamented.

Dr. Owusu highlighted the devastating impact of galamsey on the Land and water bodies.

He emphasized that the ongoing challenge serves as a stark reminder that ignoring truth and neglecting the right approach can hinder progress.

The mining engineer urged the government to adopt punitive measures to ensure safer mining practices, protecting the environment.

He concluded by praying for Ghana’s future, seeking truth, effective leadership, and a safer environment. “May God bless and guide our beloved Ghana, leading us towards a future where truth triumphs over lies and effective leadership prevails.”

Dr. Owusu’s comments come as concerns grow over the administration’s ability to address the galamsey menace, which continues to ravage the country’s natural resources and pose serious health risks to communities.
