The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Regional Secretariat has strongly condemned a violent attack on its members by alleged New Patriotic Party (NPP) thugs in Kwapong, Asunafo South District. The incident, which occurred over the weekend, has left several NDC members injured including former chairman Mr Kwabena Gyau and property damaged, heightening political tensions in the area.
In a press release issued by the NDC Regional Secretariat, the party expressed deep concern over the escalating violence, calling on the security agencies to take immediate action to bring the perpetrators to justice. According to eyewitnesses, the attack was unprovoked, with NPP thugs disrupting an NDC float at that time.
“We are appalled by the brutal and barbaric attack on our members in Kwapong. This is a direct assault on democracy, and we demand that the NPP leadership calls their thugs to order. Such acts of violence have no place in our politics, especially as we approach the crucial 2024 elections,” the statement read.
The NDC Regional Secretariat also expressed its solidarity with the victims of the attack and assured them of the party’s unwavering support. “Our thoughts are with those who were injured in this cowardly attack. We will not allow intimidation or violence to deter us from our mission of serving the people of Asunafo South and beyond,” the statement continued.
The party further urged the police and other security agencies to act swiftly to prevent further violence in the area. “We call on the police and other security forces to step up their efforts in maintaining peace and security in Asunafo South.
