UTAG, Organized Labour Strike Aimed at Making Gov’t Unpopular – Amenfi West NPP Constituency Chairman

The Amenfi West NPP Constituency Chairman, Mr. Obed Asamoa has accused the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) and organized labour unions of embarking on a strike aimed at making the government unpopular. This statement comes amidst the unions’ declaration of an indefinite strike in protest of illegal mining activities in the country.

According to the chairman, the strike is politically motivated, intended to discredit the government’s efforts. However, UTAG and other unions argue that the illegal mining threatens the lives of Ghanaian.

He questioned the rational behind the intended industrial actions, arguing if galamsey is done in Accra.

Students have expressed frustration, feeling caught in the middle of the strike action nationwide.

According to him, the government is ever ready to settle the galamsey menace to avoid causing mayhem to our water bodies.

The strike underscores tensions between labour unions and the government. As negotiations unfold, the fate of Ghana’s education sector and economic stability hangs in the balance.
