Agona West Assembly Members Condemn NPP’s Last-Minute Vote-Buying Tactics

The Concerned Assembly Members of Agona West Municipal Assembly addressed a press conference, led by Hon. J.E. Adam, Assembly Member for Nkubeim/Otapiraw, to expose the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) desperate attempts to sway votes in the upcoming December 7 general elections.

According to Hon. Adam, the NPP, through Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Onomah Coleman, is diverting assembly resources meant for assembly members to NPP candidate Mr. Chris Arthur. This includes the deployment of DRIP machines, distribution of street lights, and the opaque selection process for the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA) and Mastercard Foundation initiatives.

The assembly members condemned the abuse of public resources for partisan gains, citing the DRIP machines as an example. These machines, purchased with public funds, are being controlled by Mr. Arthur without involving assembly members.

Similarly, street lights meant for the entire constituency are being distributed by Mr. Arthur as a campaign tool.

The GEA/Mastercard Foundation program’s lack of transparency in selection criteria has also raised concerns. Only NPP-affiliated individuals have been selected, entrenching inequality and diminishing trust in democratic institutions.

The assembly members urged citizens to accept these resources, funded by taxpayer money, but not be deceived by the NPP’s last-minute vote-buying gimmicks.

They demanded immediate action, including publishing the DRIP machines’ itinerary, involving assembly members in decision-making, retrieving street lights from Mr. Arthur, and instituting transparent processes for GEA/Mastercard Foundation initiatives.

The assembly members called on the people of Agona West to stand together and demand fairness, transparency, and integrity, rejecting the NPP’s attempts to buy votes with state resources.
