Hon. Akwasi Opong-Fosu has expressed deep concerns about Ghana’s current leadership under President Nana Addo and Vice President Bawumiah, stating that the country urgently needs a reset.
In a recent interview with Kwesi Pratt on Pan African TV’s Talk Time, he emphasized that those associated with the current administration should not be involved in reversing the situation, citing the Afrobarometer report that shows an overwhelming 9 out of 10 Ghanaians believe the country is headed in the wrong direction.
Opong-Fosu urged Ghanaians to vote for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) under President John Mahama, promising that the party will restore Ghana’s democratic values and principles. He highlighted the importance of independent institutions like parliament, judiciary, EC, media, and anti-corruption agencies in consolidating democratic governance.
To achieve this, Opong-Fosu referenced Mahama’s pledge to establish a governance advisory council comprising traditional and religious leaders, civil society organizations, and distinguished personalities.
He warned that anyone attempting to subvert the will of the people will face resistance, emphasizing that Ghanaians are not timid and must not be taken for granted.
Regarding the economy, Opong-Fosu believes the NDC under John Mahama will restore it through a game-changing 24-hour economy policy. This policy aims to boost productivity in key sectors like agriculture, industrialization, and technology, creating jobs and reducing unemployment. The policy’s pillars include demand and supply, local market, and export, with a focus on adding value to raw materials before export.
According to Opong-Fosu, the 24-hour economy will introduce a 3-shift system, increasing labor demand and reducing unemployment. This approach has the potential to revitalize Ghana’s economy, which has experienced an unprecedented downturn under the current administration.
