Former Local Government Minister, Hon. Akwasi Opong-Fosu, has shared his thoughts on the recent election, congratulating President-elect Mahama and the Vice President-elect on their victory. He further commended President Mahama for rallying the NDC members and all Ghanaians to support the call for a resetting of the country.
In an interview with Randy Ahadzi on Woezor TV , Hon.Opong-Fosu emphasized that this election was an opportunity for Ghanaians to rescue the country from misrule and impunity.
According to him, the election results demonstrate that Ghanaians value truthfulness, integrity, and compassion, and will no longer tolerate reckless dissipation of national resources.
He noted that even polling stations that traditionally voted for the NPP have flipped, indicating a nationwide uprising against eight years of misrule.
He also expressed his satisfaction with the election outcome, not just because of the NDC’s victory, but because of the rejection of the kind of politics that the NPP had imposed on the country, adding that this should be a lesson for anyone aspiring to public office.
The former minister also shared his views on the parliamentary numbers, stating that the NDC’s dominance will be reflected in the various committees and the chamber.
He cautioned the NPP minority against boycotts and walkouts that will only disadvantage them and make them irrelevant while at the same time drawing attention to the dangers of executive overreach.
He expressed confidence in President Mahama’s commitment to setting the country on the right course, which will earn the NDC the trust of Ghanaians in the next election. He also discussed the 120-day social contract and economic dialogue, highlighting the need to demonstrate prudence in managing national resources.
Finally, He touched on the scraping of some taxes, which he believes will encourage businesses to thrive and create jobs. He emphasized that the new government under Mahama will manage the economy and resources prudently, without allowing massive plundering of resources.
