Central Region NDC Divides Over Choice Of Regional Minister Nominee

Nomination of the Central Regional Vice Chairman as the Regional Minister Nominee has been met with sharp discontent among the rank & file of stakeholders in the Region. A serious developing phenomenon which threatens the unity of the Region. One good week after the nomination of the said Mr Ekow Panyin, the Central Regional Executives of the Party and the Central Regional MPs Caucus are yet to issue any congratulatory message to the nominee which has raised many eyebrows.

From reliable sources, when the Regional Chairman was approached to be made the Regional Minister, he declined and proposed three (3) of the 18 NDC MPs of the Region for one of them to be made the Regional Minister for the Region to consolidate the gains made in 2024. This demonstrates the selfless nature of Prof Richard Asiedu, the dynamic Regional Chairman and his strategic leadership of this complex Region.

This goes a long way to give credence to the public outburts of the Regional Communications Officer who was emphatic that the nominee’s name was not part of the list sent on behalf of the Regional party for consideration. To Ms Gabriella Tetteh, the Region settled on an MP to be nominated as the RM and sent names of three MPs accordingly of which Mr Ekow Panyin’s name was not among. She went further to explain that when the Regional Chairman was suspended, the nominee was made to act and during that period, he succeeded in dividing the Region into many factions which took the Regional Chairman months to repair the damage, bringing everyone and every group onboard before the electoral victory last month.

Many stakeholders are pointing accusing fingers at the Vice President for forcing this divisive character on the Region again; and are calling on her to stay off internal party issues of the Region or work with the Regional party structure always and not to circumvent the decisions of the Regional party leadership for her favourites. That is the only way to keep the Region united and to repay the abiding confidence which the President has placed in her.

We will recollect that, for the first time in the history of the NDC in the Central Region, the current Regional party leadership worked to secure an unprecendented Presidential Victory in 21 Constituencies and Parliamentary Victory in 18 Constituencies and the last thing the Region needs is deliberate actions or inactions to break the front of the Region which will negatively affect their focus in assisting the government to succeed.
