Nana Akufo-Addo’s Presidency – A Legacy Of Mismanagement, Corruption, Untold Hardship And Economic Woe

Nana Akufo-Addo’s presidency has been marred by criticism, with many Ghanaians viewing his tenure as a period of ego-driven leadership, corruption, untold hardship and economic mismanagement.

To separate the truth from the falsehood, when history reflects on his time in office, it’s utterly likely to highlight his prioritization of personal ambitions over National progress.

Ghana’s economy, in particular, has suffered under his watch, with reckless borrowing and misplaced priorities leading to its decline.

The appointment of his cousin, Ken Ofori-Atta, as the overseer of the Ghana’s finances has been widely criticized. Instead of addressing Ghana’s economic challenges, Ofori-Atta rather turned the Ministry of Finance into a family-run enterprise.

The introduction of the Electronic Levy (E-Levy), the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP), and the country’s subsequent bailout by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have all been linked to Ofori-Atta’s tenure, with many questioning the wisdom of these decisions.

One of the most striking criticisms of Nana Akufo-Addo’s presidency is his apparent lack of action in the face of these economic challenges. Akufo Addo’s obsession with leaving a lasting legacy has led to the allocation of national resources towards extravagant Ghost projects, such as the construction of a National Cathedral, while essential public services, like healthcare and education, remain underfunded. This has led many to view his presidency as a betrayal of the trust placed in him by the Ghanaian people.

Ultimately, Nana Akufo-Addo’s presidency will likely be remembered for its spectacular failure to address Ghana’s economic challenges, with many questioning his leadership style and the decisions made during his tenure.

Despite his administration’s efforts to highlight its achievements, including the introduction of initiatives like the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy and the “One District, One Factory” program, the overall assessment of his presidency remains largely negative.
