The Minister for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, and Member of Parliament for Techiman South, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has commissioned a state-of-the-art mosque for the Muslim community in Tuobodom, located in the Techiman North District.
The newly inaugurated mosque, fully funded through a partnership with international NGO Direct Aid, is set to significantly improve the worship experience for the local Muslim population, who previously had to travel long distances to access a suitable place for prayers.
Addressing the media after the commissioning, the legislator disclosed that the construction and commissioning of the mosque were part of her campaign promises to the people of Techiman during the 2024 campaign season.
She also used the occasion to reiterate her commitment to the Muslim community and assured them of her unwavering support in all their endeavors.
“There was a mosque at Tuobodom Zongo, but it was old and couldn’t accommodate many people during prayers. Let me put it on record that the original mosque was built by my late father and former Member of Parliament for Techiman North, I.K. Mensah.
“During the campaign season, I promised to build a modern mosque for the people of Techiman North. I received many offers of support, but the one from Direct Aid stood out. All they requested was litigation-free land. With their help, I was able to construct this modern mosque for the good people of Tuobodom.” She said.
“Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare further disclosed that she prioritizes quality and standards over quantity, which is why she ensured the mosque was built as an ultra-modern facility. She also urged the people in her constituency to tolerate and respect the religious views of others, emphasizing that true development can only take place in an atmosphere of peace and mutual coexistence.
“What I particularly like about this mosque is that it is carpeted, so our Muslim brethren no longer have to bring mats from home when they come to pray.
“As I always say, whenever I initiate a project in Techiman North, I ensure that it is of high quality. I thank God for giving me the strength to complete this mosque and fulfill my campaign promise.” She stated.
The Deputy Tuobodom District Chief Imam and Aworowa Imam, Alhaji Tahiru Adam commended the MP’s efforts and urged the community to protect and respect the sanctity of the mosque.
He also advised them to desist from engaging in partisan politics with the project and concentrate on making it better.
“This house is a house of Allah, aside worship Allah, we shouldn’t do anything else in this mosque, we should not do anything that will bring the name of the Most High Allah into disrepute when we enter the house.
“Our Member of Parliament had a vision for building this place of worship for us, all that we can do is to honor that vision and I believe that by so doing, we will not only get the blessings of Allah but also get the blessings of Allah on our Member of Parliament” He advised/
Many community members, visibly elated, expressed their deep appreciation to the MP for her dedication and service.
“We are very grateful to Hon. Elizabeth for what she has done for us. In fact, I have never seen a mosque as beautiful as this one. We are truly thankful to our Member of Parliament for her kind gesture.” A community member told our reporter.
Another said, “The commissioning of this mosque will go a long way in supporting us as we worship Allah. The mosque is equipped with high-quality facilities that will greatly benefit our community.
“Our central mosque was not spacious enough to accommodate all of us during Jumu’ah prayers, but this new mosque can host many worshippers, and that is a great improvement.”
