2028 Elections:NDC Diaspora Chair Calls for ROPA Law Implementation to Boost Party’s Electoral Fortunes

Eric Kwaku Agyei Agyemang, Chairman of the NDC Malaysia/Southeast Chapter and CEO of Bright Essence LLC Company in Dubai, has made a compelling case for the implementation of the Representation of the People Amendment (ROPA) law in Ghana’s electoral process.

Mr.Agyemang’s fervent appeal to President John Mahama’s government underscores the imperative of enabling Ghanaian citizens residing abroad to participate in the electoral process, thereby fostering a more inclusive and representative democracy.

He said, by allowing Ghanaians in the diaspora to cast their votes in their respective high commissions and embassies, the NDC government can harness the goodwill and support of its diaspora chapters, potentially bolstering its electoral prospects in future polls. This move would not only enhance the party’s fortunes but also demonstrate its commitment to the principles of democracy and citizen participation.

Agyemang’s call is backed by a coalition of NDC diaspora chapters, who have been vocal about their inability to participate in the electoral process despite their unwavering support for the party.

The proposed implementation of the ROPA law would be a significant step towards addressing this disparity and empowering Ghanaians abroad to contribute to the country’s democratic journey.

Agyemang also suggested that the NDC government consider appointing party executives to embassy roles, enabling them to oversee the interests of the government and monitor the operations of Ghanaian missions abroad. This strategic move would help prevent malfeasance and ensure that Ghanaian embassies and missions serve as beacons of integrity and efficiency.
