Kotoko backtracks on case, agree to pay $34,000 compensation

Ghana coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor will be $34,000 richer in the coming days after Asante Kotoko decided not to fight the compensation ruling against the local giants at the Court for Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Kotoko management member Edmund Ackah said the team will no longer pursue its case against their former coach after the club was ordered to pay the amount to the coach.

The Porcupine Warriors will now pay Akonnor the hefty compensation after the Ghana FA ruled that he was wrongfully dismissed by the Kumasi-based giants.

Ackah in an interview with Oyerepa FM disclosed the team will no longer pursue the case as earlier indicated by General Manager Nana Cooker.

“We had three days to go for review which we didn’t and it means the case has ended unless the court of law which Asante Kotoko is not the type to send football cases to court.”

The Player Status Committee of the Ghana FA ruled last month that the Porcupine Warriors breached the terms of his contract.

The ex-Ghana international was sacked in July last year, just nine months into his three-year contract.

He dragged the club to the Ghana Football Association demanding his 2 years salary, league trophy cash, and CAF Confederations Cup group stage entitlements.

The Player Status Committee ruled that the club was not justified in terminating the contract of the former Hearts of Oak gaffer.
