Covid-19: IMF evaluating Ghana’s request for credit

The International Monetary Fund(IMF) has acknowledged receipt of Ghana’s request for credit to battle the scourge of covid-19 pandemic in the country.

In a statement  issued by the Bretton Woods institution noted that the IMF is currently evaluating the authorities’ request and bring it forward for Executive Board consideration as soon as possible.

The coronavirus pandemic is driving upheaval in the economies on the globe as countries are hard hit by the pandemic.

The development has forced the West African nation to turn to the IMF for support amidst the disruption caused by the covid -19.

Ghana’s covid-19 situation

Ghana’s confirmed cases has scaled up to 53 over the last 24hrs with two deaths.

The latest cases were recorded from tests conducted from people who arrived in Ghana on Sunday and were mandatorily quarantined by the government.

According to the Health Minister, 1030 people were mandatorily quarantined after they arrived in the country on Sunday and Monday.

Samples were taken from 611 people and out of 185 of the samples tested 25 tested positive for COVID-19. More tests are still being carried out according to the Mr Agyeman Manu.

Below is the IMF’s Statement 

IMF’s African Department director Abebe Aemro Selassie today made the following statement:

“Last week, the IMF received Ghana’s request for a disbursement under the Rapid Credit Facility to help the country address the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. We are working hard to evaluate the authorities’ request and bring it forward for Executive Board consideration as soon as possible.”
