AFCON 2008: Richard Kingston was forced to play against Cote D’Ivoire – Fatau Dauda

Former Black Stars goalkeeper, Fatua Dauda has revealed that colleague goalkeeper Richard Kingston was forced to play with injury in the third-place playoff game against Cote D’Ivoire at the CAN 2008 which was hosted in Ghana.

The former Ashantigold SC goalkeeper warmed the bench for the entire game as the Black Stars of Ghana claimed the bronze medal by beating the Elephants of Cote D’Ivoire by four goals to two.

In an interview with Joy FM, he hinted that Kingston wanted him to have his national team debut on that day because of his injury but the technical handlers did not give in to the request of Richard Kingston.

“I remember in the last game Richard Kingston was forced to play even though he was injured because I was young. Richard Kingston asked me if I wanted to play the game and I said yes”

“He wanted to let me play but maybe he thought I was too young then. I was the only player who didn’t get any minutes in the tournament.”
