Nii Lante Vanderpuye backs Wakaso’s NPP-NDC politics against Black Stars

Former Sports Minister Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye has thrown his support behind Mubarak Wakaso’s assertion that the two biggest political parties in the country, NPP and NDC are the bane of the nation’s 38-year trophy drought.

Ghana have endured nothing but disappointment at the continental football showpiece since lifting the trophy in 1982.

The West Africa powerhouse have made the semi-final of the last six editions but failed to lay hands on the ultimate.

In 2010 and 2015, the four-time continental champions got to the final only to lose to Egypt and Ivory Coast respectively.

The Jiangsu Suning enforcer believes the rivalry between the country’s two biggest political parties [NPP-NDC] is fighting against the team’s title-winning chances.

The 29-year-old intimated that the national team does not get the get full ‘moral’ support from the two main political parties because of their own agendas.

“I agree with Wakaso 100%. Partisan politics has ruined the Black Stars. I experienced it as a Sports Minister. Some people in NPP influenced some players against me during my time as a minister and I got to know,” Hon. Vanderpuije said on Angel FM.

Ghana are gunning for their 23rd appearance at the AFCON in Cameroon in 2021.
