The Kasena-Nankana Municipal Police command in the Upper East Region has impounded two truckloads of subsidised fertiliser meant for the government’s flagship Planting for Food and Jobs programme.
The first of the two trucks with registration numbers GT 2981-09 and AS 928- 13, each loaded with 1,000 bags of the diverted fertiliser, was offloading the items into a warehouse belonging to one Aisha Ibrahim when it was impounded.
The second truck was arrested at a Filling Station where it had been parked.
Speaking to Class News’ regional correspondent, Derrick Abasiki, the Municipal police commander Superintendent Agyare Francis said the suspects were arrested upon a tip off.
He said: “Upon a tip off, the BNI had a wind that they had brought a long truck loaded with 1000 Planting for Food and Job fertilisers and that they were removing the labels from the sacks and transfering them into a Burkinabe vehicle, so, the BNI quickly moved into the scene and intercepted them.
“We then drew the attention of the police and together with the BNI we escorted the vehicles to the charge office and impounded it. The said notorious fertilizer seller and the driver in charge of the vehicles have been detained for further investigation.”
Superintendent Agyare further noted that “another long truck loaded with fertiliser believed to also have [1000 sacks of] Planting for Food and Jobs fertiliser hidden in them was also intercepted. It has been impounded at the station for further action.”
