Sports Ministry in u-turn on male football participation in All Africa games

The Ministry of Youth and Sports has made a sharp u-turn on the participation of male football team at the upcoming All Africa games in Rabat, Morocco after a last ditch attempt from members of the Ghana Football Association.

This was after the International Games and Competitions Committee (IGCC) deemed Ghana’s participation of the tournament as not representing value for money since the main Under 20 team who will represent us at the tournament failed to glitter at the African Youth Championship tournament in Niger.

Speaking in an interview with Kumasi based Oyerepa Fm, National Sports Authority (NSA) boss Prof. Twumasi confirmed that they were plans to drop out of the tournament since they now wanted only teams who would go and get medals to represent and not just send numbers who come home empty-handed.

Sources close to ghanaguardian.com has revealed that GFA General Secretary Alex Asante met the IGCC and explained the ramifications of that late withdrawal.

He explained to them that the country would be fined by CAF and would be coerced to forfeit the next CAF U20 Cup of Nations tournament.

Ghana will be represented by the Under 20 team who underperformed woefully in Niger but this time under the guidance of Yaw Preko.

The Satellite have been drawn in Group B alongside reigning Africa U20 Champions Mali, as well as Senegal and Burundi with the men’s football starting from 16-30 August in two cities of Rabat and Kenitra.
