Why Nana Yaw Amponsah lost out on Kotoko CEO job

As reported elsewhere, Nana Yaw Amponsah’s move to Kotoko as the club’s Chief Executive Officer is off.

The decision by the new Kotoko board to not engage his service is not because he failed to convince them he is the right man to lead the club.

On the contrary, Nana Yaw Amponsah impressed the club’s board greatly with his vast knowledge of football.

Sources close to Kotoko tell GhanaWeb that Nana Yaw exhibited great knowledge and understanding of Kotoko’s traditional status and how that can be merged with modern administrative trends to develop a world-class brand.

The board was blown away by his appreciation for numbers and how he intended to help them achieve the targets by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Despite passing the interview with flying colors, GhanaWeb understands the reason behind the board’s decision not to appoint Nana Yaw Amponsah is he failed the last test.

The last test, our sources say was a background check on whether he has any ties with rivals Accra Hearts of Oak.

Unfortunately for the enterprising football administrator, they discovered that he is a supporter of Hearts Oak.

This, according to our sources, plus the leakage of portions of his proposal culminated in the decision to pull the plug on his appointment.

Meanwhile, the hunt for a new CEO continues with former Ashgold CEO Frederick Acheampong heavily linked.

Data Bank CEO Kwadwo Addae was reportedly a subject of an approach from the board but he has publicly declined any interest in the position.

While the search is ongoing, Joseph Yaw Adu, a former Sports Director of KNUST has been appointed in an acting capacity.
