NPP Communicators warned against joining campaign to fix Bawku-Bolga road

Members of the Communication Team of the govering New Patriotic Party in the Upper East Region have been cautioned against joining a campaign to get government to resume and complete work on the Bolgatanga-Bawku road.

A campaign dubbed #FixBolgaBawkuRoadNOW emerged in the past few weeks, spearheaded by an advocacy group called Narrative Changers with support from the media and notable groups to mount pressure on government to resume work on the much talked about Bolgatanga-Bawku road.

The campaign which started on social media is expected to take a bigger dimension with press conferences and demonstrations subsequently.

However, in a communique to the regional communication team issued by the Upper East Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party Issah Sanusi and seen by MyNewsGh.com, members of the team were told that the campaign is being pushed by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in order to put undue pressure on government to fix the road and hence cautioned against communicators falling for the campaign.

“There is deliberate attempt by some NDC members to bring undue pressure on this Government for the completion of Bolga-Bawku Road. Unfortunately some of our party faithful including some Party Executives and party communicators fell to this,” the communique said.

While admitting that calls for the completion of construction of the road are legitimate, the party however believes it is not prudent for members to join the campaign

It is legitimate for us to demand the completion of the Bolga Bawku Road but, that must be done with caution”. The statement read in part

The communicators were charged to remind the public in their line of communication that the official contract was signed on 6th December, 2016 a day to the general elections by the Mahama administration and to question why the 2016 Budget was read in November 2015 without capturing the Bolgatanga Bawku road.

The seen communique also indicated that a meeting with the Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia by the Regional Executives of the Party led by its Regional Chairman Lawyer Anthony Namoo revealed that government had issues with the contract signed with the Brazilian construction firm Queiroz Galvao because government believes the contract was overpriced.

It said “After the explanation of the vice President it was cleared that government had issues with the contractual agreement. The contract was overpriced and government wanted to include it in the Synohydro deal but was challenged with judgement debt, so government proposed a down ward review of the contract which the contractor agreed but was yet to come to the negotiation table. So please take note and be mindful of the Agenda setters”
