LIVE UPDATES: Liverpool vs Man City (Community Shield)

Yes, top-flight football is officially BACK. Well sort of.

Good afternoon and welcome to the live commentary of the Community Shield match between Liverpool and Manchester City at Wembley Stadium.

The best two teams in the land come face to face once again.

Yes, it’s only the Charity Shield.

Yes, neither club have many new faces.

Yes, it doesn’t really count.

City claimed both the Premier League crown, EFL Cup and the FA Cup last season, although the Champions League still eluded the club. Pep Guardiola will be hard pressed to enjoy a stronger campaign domestically, but the league will once again be his priority.

Liverpool were very worthy foes and the Spaniard will be looking to make a statement in their first match-up of the campaign to re-affirm City’s status as the top club in the country.

Both teams will be looking to set down a marker for the new Premier League campaign.

Liverpool were beaten to the crown by City in one of the closest title races in league history, with both sides amassing over 90 points each.

No side had ever claimed more points without winning the title than Liverpool did last season.

That will be on the mind of Jurgen Klopp as the new domestic season is about to begin even if the Reds did win the Champions League last term.
Stay with us for all the updates. Game kicks off at 2pm GMT.
