The Bono East Regional Command of the Narcotics Control Commission has carried out a major operation at three drug ghettos in Donkro Nkwanta, located in the Nkoranza South District. Speaking to our reporter after the operation, the Bono East Regional Commander of the Narcotics Control Commission, SNCO Portia Abuwie Demuyakor, stated that the swoop was part of the Commission’s sustained efforts to crack down on drug-related activities in the region. She described the action as a strong warning to those involved in the illicit drug trade.

“We conducted a swoop today, and as a result, we destroyed three ghettos. This action is to send a clear warning that we remain active in the fight against narcotics in the region.” She said

The Regional Commander noted that despite extensive public education campaigns, some people continue to engage in the use and trafficking of illegal drugs. She reaffirmed the Commission’s resolve to safeguard the youth from the dangers of substance abuse.

“We have undertaken numerous demand-reduction and sensitization activities in schools, churches, markets, and other public spaces to discourage the use of illicit drugs. However, some individuals still indulge in these activities.” She noted

“We will not sit idle and watch our youth be destroyed by drugs. Those involved in the trade of such substances should know that we will come after them. The youth are the future of this country, and we must protect them at all costs.” SNCO Portia Demuyakor told our reporter

SNCO Portia Abuwie Demuyakor explained that effective control of narcotics would make communities across the Bono East Region and the entire country much safer, adding that the Commission remains fully committed to this goal.

“Our communities will be safer if narcotics are properly controlled and if the youth abstain from their use. We are committed to ensuring this is achieved in Bono East and Ghana at large.” She revealed

The Bono East Regional Operations Officer of the Narcotics Control Commission, ANCO Andrews Ansah Boakye, explained that the operation was triggered by credible intelligence revealing high levels of narcotics activities in Donkro Nkwanta.

“During the operation, we successfully raided three ghettos located in the bush. Through the determination of our team, we were able to carry out the exercise effectively and arrested some suspects in the process.” He stated.

He added that several other drug hotspots have already been identified across the region and will be targeted in future operations.

“We have also identified other hotspots within the region, and we will soon carry out similar operations there, as we remain determined to curb narcotics activities and the use of illicit substances.” He disclosed
