COVID-19 kills Nurse at Eastern Regional Hospital

A nurse at the Diabetes Mellitus Ward of the Eastern Regional Hospital, Koforidua, has died from Covid-19.

The Nurse was on admission at the Covid-19 treatment center in the hospital and was said to be recovering however died Monday afternoon after her condition worsened.

The death of the nurse has sparked fear among the staff of the hospital who say management has stopped providing them some vital Personal Protective Equipment.

Again, on Monday for instance, it was observed that Nurses stationed at the main gates of the hospital to check the temperature of visitors entering the hospital and also sanitize them were absent, but, have returned to post Tuesday morning.

Ghana’s Covid-19 cases and related fatalities have seen a steady rise. The latest update by the Ghana Health Service on October 29,2020, put the national case count to 620 active cases having recorded 72 cases in a single day.

The death toll has also risen to 320.

Health experts have expressed fear that the disease may resurge owing to blatant disregard for the preventive protocols particularly during Political activities ahead of the December 7 Presidential and Parliamentary election this year.
