Ghana Police Service receives support for community policing

The German programme to build and strengthen the police structures in selected partner countries in Africa, under the GIZ, donated some items to the Ghana police service in a short ceremony held at the police headquarters in Accra.

The items in question were 15 motorbikes, 57 laptop computers, 57 projectors and projector screens, and 57 Public Address systems.

The country director of the programme Mr. Phillip Niehenke explained the plans the GIZ and the Ghana police service had for improving the quality of policing in the country

In an address to the gathered media he expounded how with improved training, accountability and the implementation of community policing that crime in Ghana will reduce drastically.

COP Nathan Kofi Boakye thanked the Germans for their support and praised them for their work to help improve community policing and reduce violent crime. He added that the commitment of the GIZ to improving policing in Ghana was admirable.
