I’m a pastoral counsellor; you can’t ban me – George Lutterodt tells Ghana Psychological Council

Pastor Cyril George Carstensen Lutterodt, has taken on the Ghana Psychological Council for a ‘supposed’ letter seeking to ban him from counselling on either radio or TV.

According to him, he is not a psychologist but a pastoral counsellor, therefore, the council cannot ban him from discharging his duties.

He said he graduated and was ordained as a pastoral counsellor in 2005 and has since practised his trade in that manner.

“I am a pastoral counsellor… I have certificates, I have learnt and still learning. I was trained by a school… but the only challenge is that whatever training you have, it was made clear to us that our certificates cannot run circular,” he explained on Peace FMs ‘Entertainment Review’.

“Within what I have learnt so far, I am a qualified pastoral counsellor not by their council (Psychological Council) …they cannot, till I die ban me in this country, never!” an angry Mr Lutterodt added.

Mr Lutterodt believes he is the target of Dr Diana Baah Odoom, the registrar of the Psychological Council because she had earlier threatened on Accra based Adom FM that she was using him as a scapegoat.

The Ghana Psychological Council in a letter to Mr Lutterodt indicated that “a person who does not have the requisite qualification and who is not registered with the Council but wilfully and falsely uses any name, title or in addition implying a qualification of practice as psychologist or counsellor and practices or profess to practice psychology of which include counselling or receives payment to provide psychological services commits an offence and is punishable by law”.

But Mr Lutterodt stated that he only speaks to issues anytime he is called on either radio or TV because he was trained to do so.

“The freedom of speech in this country gives me the right as a gazetted Reverend Minister to share my opinion on every issue, I don’t impose my opinion on anybody,” he stressed.
