Canadian Girls Kidnap: Lead Investigator Chief Inspector Matthew Anokye dies

The death of Chief Inspector Matthew Anokye was made known to the Accra High Court by Detective Corporal Augustine Dery who held a brief for him.

According to him, Chief Inspector Mathew Anokye whose contribution to the investigations surrounding the kidnapping of the two Canadian has been unrivaled died on May 4, 2021.

It could be remembered that two Canadian women who were on an exchange programme in Kumasi were kidnapped in the Ashanti Regional capital.

The two women, one of whose name has been given as Lauren, were forced into a vehicle just when they stepped out of their apartment at Silver Spring Avenue.

However, the Police through the assistance of Canadian Embassy in Ghana and other foreign investigators were able to rescue the ladies who were later sent to their home country.

Meanwhile, out of the eight suspected kidnappers, an Accra High Court freed four (4).

The four: Seidu Abubakar alias Mba, Abdul Nasir, Safiano Abubakar and Abdul Rahman Suleimana aka Wofa were acquitted after a change in the charge sheet by the Attorney General’s office.
