This will ensure that not only Nigeria, but other West African countries using the system provided by Ghana for their lottery games are legitimized.
Director-General of the National Lottery Authority, Samuel Awuku, told his Nigerian counterpart that Ghana is making this move because it has built a robust and trusted system that can be deployed to all countries in the sub-region.
Speaking at a courtesy call by the Nigeria Licensed Lottery Operators Forum when they paid a courtesy call on him in Accra.
According to the National Lottery Authority, Nigeria has been using the numbers generated from Ghana through its draw for its operations without any benefit to the country.
Speaking to welcome the Nigerian Licensed Lottery Operators Forum, Director General of the National Lottery Authority said the country will be using the collaboration to make legitimate demands from both Nigeria and other countries.
“We have of course been worried many times when Nigeria were using our draw numbers for its lotto operations, whilst Ghana is not benefiting from it. We hope to use the collaboration to cement our working relationship and also believe that as a country we will start getting our due, as we go through a process to generate the numbers and get the systems running.”
“This is not only to Nigeria but other neighboring countries like, Ivory Coast, Togo and others using our platforms for their lotto business. We are committed to the West African project and as I said, we can use this relationship to help Nigeria build a standard lotto operating system, whilst making ours in Ghana a world-class” Sammi Awuku.
Chairman for the Nigerian Licensed Lottery Operators Forum Chima Onwuka confirmed that the issue of royalties is the topmost agenda on the visit to Ghana.
Meanwhile, Mr. Awuku has hinted that the NLA is beginning a special exercise to arrest and prosecute all private lotto operators without license and illegal dealers in the system.
