Nigeria Police detain goat over attempted armed robbery

A goat is in police custody in Nigeria on suspicion of attempted armed robbery of a Mazda 323.

The incident in which a black and white beast was arrested took place in south western Kwara State according to local media reports.

Vigilantes are said to have arrested the goat with the reason that it was an armed robber who had used black magic to transform himself into a goat to escape arrest.

“The group of vigilante men came to report that while they were on patrol they saw some hoodlums attempting to rob a car. They pursued them. However one of them escaped while the other turned into a goat,” Kwara state police spokesman Tunde Mohammed told Reuters by telephone.

“We cannot confirm the story, but the goat is in our custody. We cannot base our information on something mystical. It is something that has to be proved scientifically, that a human being turned into a goat,” he added.

The police fed the detained goat a pile of straw as was captured in a photo published by a national newspaper today.

Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation, boasts a diverse religious and ethnic makeup.

Lawmakers this week declared ritual killing a national emergency and called for films with themes around the subject to be banned by the regulator.
