Active Minds Reading Club and Believe in What You Dream interact with girls in Apirede in the Eastern Region

Believe in What You Dream, an organisation from the United States of America, has partnered with Active Minds Reading Club, Ghana, to host over 200 girls in the Apirede community in Akuapem in the Eastern Region on Friday, 23rd December 2022. The girls were treated to a time of mentoring, storytelling, reading, crocheting and talks on hygiene dubbed “A Day with Dream Girls in the Community”.

According to the Executive Director of Believe in What You Dream, Ms Shantelle Brumfield, her programme provides the tools to help girls learn how to start, stay on track, and fail successfully.

“These programs offer solutions needed to navigate life as a young person successfully,” she mentioned.

She indicated that she uses the process of crocheting to teach girls the value of being a big dreamer, having the audacity to start, having the ambition to plan and being accountable to ask and accept the help needed to get on track.

“Many children in underserved communities are exposed to increased social vices because there are no healthy alternative extracurricular activities. Active Minds Reading Club through its initiatives is working to improve child literacy by providing reading and learning resources, and introducing children to reading as a hobby and as an alternative means of recreation.”

Founder of Active Minds Reading Club, Mrs Rita Agyen Takyi, shared that with the support of key partners, Active Minds Reading Club is helping young children, especially girls, shape their worldview by opening them to a world of possibilities and guiding them through this journey.

The chief of Apirede,Okogyeahene )toafom Saforo Okoampah II said that chieftaincy is an opportunity to develop and empower people in the community, which was why he was collaborating with worthy organisations to bring social development to Apirede.

“The development of every community starts with education, and Apirede has prioritised the education of its youth as a tool to develop mindsets and wellbeing of the children.”

The Day with the Dream Girl in the community is a collaboration between the Active Minds Reading Club and Believe in what you dream to empower young girls through literacy and creative activities.
