The Agona West branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has strongly condemned the violent clash between factions of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that occurred over the weekend. The incident, which involved supporters of NPP parliamentary candidate Chris Arthur and incumbent MP Hon. Cynthia Mamle Morrison, who is running as an independent candidate, left multiple individuals severely injured, with one victim in critical condition at the University of Ghana Medical Center.
The NDC described the incident as a reckless display of aggression that has left residents in shock and fear, emphasizing that such violence has no place in Ghana’s democracy. The party called on the Ghana Police Service to conduct a swift and impartial investigation, identifying and bringing perpetrators to justice without delay.
Leaders of the NPP, including Chris Arthur and Cynthia Mamle Morrison, were urged to take responsibility for their supporters’ actions, publicly denouncing violence and committing to a peaceful campaign.
The NDC emphasized that political leaders must promote peace and tolerance, ensuring citizens’ safety and right to support their preferred candidates without intimidation.
The NDC reiterated its commitment to a peaceful electoral process in Agona West, working towards a community where everyone feels safe regardless of political views. The party expressed solidarity with those injured, wishing them a swift recovery, and urged residents to uphold respect, unity, and tolerance ahead of the December 7th elections.
This incident is the latest in a series of violent clashes between political factions in Ghana, highlighting concerns about electoral violence. The NDC’s statement underscores the need for peaceful and constructive political engagement, prioritizing the safety and well-being of citizens.
