A 47-year-old man has under a strange circumstance, stabbed his six-year-old son to death at Diabene, a farming community within the Sekondi/Takoradi metropolis of the Western Region.
Kwaku Aaba, a local gin distiller, allegedly used a sharp machete to slash the boy’s neck from the back without any provocation whatsoever, causing him to bleed to death Friday morning.
The suspect was said to have committed the murder at about 11:30pm while he was on his way to farm with his two children, including the deceased.
Though the man claimed the machete fell from a sack the deceased was carrying and accidently hacked his son, his elder son who witnessed the incident said his father intentionally hit the deceased with the sack containing the well-sharpened machete.
Residents who were shocked by the bizarre incident subjected the suspect to severe beatings before he was handed to the Police in Takoradi. The Police say an investigation into the case has begun.
Some residents, including his wife, Maame Tweba, who spoke to Takoradi-based Connect FM some minutes after the incident, described the suspect as a violent and drunkard man.
They want the law to deal with him.
Earlier before the incident, Maame Tweba said she prepared rice for the family to eat before the man left home with the two sons for farm at about 10:00am.
According to her, some few minutes after they had left home, she heard some screaming from afar only to step out to find her husband carrying the motionless body of the younger son.
“I rushed to where he came to put him [the deceased] and saw blood oozing from the nose and other parts of the body. My husband and his elder son also had blood stains all over their bodies,” narrated.
She said before she could compose herself, people from the community had besieged the premises to question the suspect as to what happened.
