Deputy Minister of Health, Dr Bernard Okoe-Boye has contradicted claims by Minister of Information Kojo Oppong Nkrumah who had earlier stated that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is on a 14-day self-isolation.
Dr Okoe-Boye clarified the terms isolation and quarantine with respect to COVID-19, saying, President Nana Akufo-Addo is rather in quarantine and not isolation.
According to him, the proper term for covid-19 negative is quarantine.
In a recent press statement from the presidency sighted by MyNewsGh.com, the President was said to be in isolation for 14 days which in English term means he has tested positive for coronavirus.
But explaining the terms isolation and quarantine to Citi FM’s Point Blank show, Dr. Okoe-Boye said “if you are positive you are in isolation; the terms are different. If someone is positive and if you come into contact, until your sample comes you are only in quarantine, but once you are confirmed then we don’t call it quarantine…we call it isolation.”
He further explained that isolation is the term used for positive covid-19 cases.
“In English, if I tell you am in isolation it means that I have kept myself from people so I think the confirm negative helps us to appreciate what they mean by isolation. But because I’m talking science here, the president like I said in English he has isolated himself but in terms of technical language he is in quarantine”, Dr. Okoe-Boye further clarified on the show monitored by MyNewsGh.com
He pointed out that President Akufo-Addo is doing very well with respect to his health.
Some government officials have so far tested positive of covid-19 with Education Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku-Prempeh and Health Minister Kwaku Agyeman-Manu recovering from the disease.
